In this 3-story building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, we were asked by the owners to expand their 2nd floor apartment unit by combining it with the 3rd floor, which was unaltered in a previous renovation. Our design completely overhauls the space with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, new plumbing, electrical, cooling, radiant heating, and windows. Space, light, materials, and color are brought together to elevate ordinary moments into whimsical details: a corner window niche that frames a bathtub; a bookshelf that mimics a door; a ceiling that's sculpted to reflect natural light. Most importantly, perhaps, the space creates a tranquil respite from the owners' place of work – a music recording studio located on the ground floor.
